Babawatoto artistic approaches :

i.  Theatre production

Inspired by a famous Parapanda Theatre  Lab which also was  founded  by Mgunga  in 1994 to nurture  children theatre talents.  This is the strongest product  and longest program in Babawatoto.  Have excellent team of youth entertainers, educators and movers through circus, dance ,drama and music. Has produced numerous plays and performed in Tanzania and beyond such as Malawi and ,Uganda. Babawatoto theatre directors have massive experience also   in training ,directing   and producing  children and youth  theatre with international communities such as Yale  and New York Universities, Rwanda and Kenyan secondary schools, children and youth theatre groups in  rural Tanzania   to mention a few.

ii.  Community Action Theatre (CAT)

This is a people based  highly participatory approach that uses local artistic expressions  lead by theatre  to facilitate change in a society. It is a process of involving targeted community to identify and   engage in solving its own problems. It is based on conscientization and empowerment theories that see community members as having capacity to remove all barriers to their development using its own  culture  as  resource and strategy.

Several projects under this includes: End Child Abuse Project in Mburahati, Kigogo, Tandale and Mabibo wards.  Fight Against improper   Waste Management in Mburahati and Mabibo Wards,  Promotion of Children rights  in  primary schools in Morogoro and Dar es salaam  and  the  hygiene promotion projects in Nyarugusu refugees camp in Kasulu.

iii.  Behavior change communication (BCC)

Educational and artistic materials engaged into changing risky behaviors are developed following the principles of BCC. The materials and strategies  such as T shirts, posters, flyers, plays, songs, jingles and spots  to mention a few,  the final product of intensive process that put communities at the core. The target communities identify their barriers ,find root causes, effect and possible solutions. Issues raised from this process are used to develop BCC messages and eventually produce BCC materials  ready for campaigns.

iv.  Sports for change

Babawatoto League, is an annual event  involving 30 football teams from the catchment wards. This tournament serves as a strategy to communicate messages  to youth regarding various issues including rights on reproductive health for youth and adolescents, hygiene, integrity and about being responsible citizen. On the other hands there are sports games  designed as  facilitation methods to behaviour change. They enhance confidence, focus, memory, speed, endurance, team building etc   among children and youth.

Sports and games rescue children and youth from engaging themselves with risky behaviors such as using alcohol, loitering, hanging out and theft. This program identifies and nurturer children and youth with talents and interest on sports. Registered children and youths get training from couches.
